Design Details of our Leather iPhone Cases-Kulör Cases

Since we started Kulor Cases about 15 months ago, we have been working continuously to improve our leather phone case design, our craftsmanship and product quality. Some of these product details might seem subtle to casual iPhone users, but could make a big difference in terms of usability of the iPhone. These details are ranked in terms of importance for usability:

Detail #1 - Cut out at the bottom for Gesture Control

Many 3rd party cases have designs that also cover the bottom area around the sound grill and lightning port. However, we have designed it such that it's an open cut out at the bottom for much better gesture control. To us, gesture controls trump everything else. And this design detail is becoming more important as new iPhones such as the iPhone XR and XS lack the physical home button and have to rely heavily on gesture control.

Detail #2 - Button cut out for Ease of Use

There are 3 buttons on the iPhone - Power button, Volume Up and Volume Down. These are buttons which the user would want instant access and function. We have decided to create a small and stylish cut out around these buttons to facilitate instant access and direct tactile feedback from the buttons.

Detail #3 - Covered top lip for Better Protection

Our previous designs, namely for iPhone 6, 7, 8 and X, were designed with an open upper lip design (we were going for a sleek look). But many of our customers wanted a better-protected top for their phones so we have revised our design to improve the upper lip design and started rolling out this new design from our Samsung phone cases and now the iPhone XR and XS phone cases. (Note: our iPhone 6, 7, 8 and X cases will retain the open top-lip)

Detail #4 - Wrapped around leather in edges and corners

Leather is expensive. A few phone case makers try to save cost by minimizing the use of leather. One way to do it is to glue a small piece of leather on a plastic case and call it a leather case. But the downside is that the case will look cheap (because of the showing plastic frame). And the piece of leather is easy to be peeled off since it's simply glued on. We keep that in mind and make sure the corners and sides are all covered in leather. Our craftsmen spend three times the amount of time that it takes on one regular case.
