Does the Series 5/4 Apple Watch fit series 1/2/3 watch bands?

People are asking if they could replace their Apple Watch Series 5/4 watch band with the ones from Series 1, 2 or 3. The reason for the confusion is that Apple has categorized their Apple Watch Series 5 & 4 as the 40mm and the 44mm versions. On paper, those names are definitely different from the 38mm and 42mm versions from Series 1/2/3. 

Apple has actually clarified that the old 38mm watch bands from Series 1/2/3 are compatible with the 40mm Series 5/4 Apple Watch. And similarly, the old 42mm watch bands from Series 1/2/3 are compatible with the 44mm Series 5/4 Apple Watch. Here's a screenshot from their website:

So Apple Watch Series 5/4 is compatible with Series 1, 2, 3 bands. If you want to reuse your current watch bands, please make sure you get the right sized Apple Watch Series 5/4. If you have a 42mm watch now, get the new 44mm watch. And if you have a 38mm watch now, get the new 40mm watch.
